Beyond Black Mesa, an Awesome Fan-Made Half Life Short

January 25, 2011 Stuart

Check out this pretty awesome fan-made Half life short called Beyond Black Mesa. This was done by a group of 7 friends with a $1200 budget and a lot of time and dedication. Very nice work!

There are a wealth of these Halflife 2 films on YouTube. However, I’d say that this one is one of the better ones and deals more or less with a character that had an ambiguous fate at the end of Opposing Force. I’m willing to bet that most of that $1,200 went towards props and costumes—especially the Combine soldier ones. I mean that one Combine soldier’s close combat weapon probably cost at least $100 alone (looks a lot like the CRKT Hissou, but the Kydex sheath and grind are different—yeah, a side effect of the research for my E.D.C.).
