Lamy Safari Fountain Pen

Lamy Safari Fountain Pens

Lamy’s Safari fountain pen is an inexpensive way to break out of the monotony of ordinary ball point and gel pens. The Safari is priced at about $25, and include a single ink cartridge to start you off with. For a few dollars extra (~$4-5), a Lamy Z 24 converter enables you to load the Safari with your choice of bottled ink.

The Safari writes exceptionally smoothly and is a pleasure to use. These pens are available in different colors and with different sized nibs. Most people will usually opt for the Extra Fine or Fine pen styles.

I can honestly attest to the quality of this pen. I was given one as a gift long, long ago—before I could really appreciate such things—and it mostly sat for nearly a decade or so. The resin is moulded in a very nice ’80s modern design type of fashion (I still think that it’s pretty stylish) and the tip glides across paper pretty well. The interesting thing is that the ink cartridges use a water based ink and can technically be resuscitated with a few drops of water and some vigorous shaking (I’ve done this before after letting the pen sit for too long as I typically only carry this one out of the house when I’m dressed up a bit).
