Somehow, the creative minds in Hollywood decided to explore the idea of making more board game-inspired movies. Are board games even popular anymore?
While this new Battleship trailer looks reasonably promising, I can’t quite take it seriously knowing what the plot is based off of.
The only board game-inspired movie that comes to mind is Clue. Does anyone know if there have been any others?
Joe says
Jumanji? does that count?
I loved Clue though, it was awesome.
Stuart says
Hmm… but was Jumanji a real game, or a movie about a fictional game? Zathura was another about a fictional game.
Joe says
The movie came first, but there was a board game made (unfortunately, you cant get trapped in the board game they’re selling).
Couldn’t think of Zathura, but I know where was another one.

Though before before that it was a book with some rather awesome illustrations.

There was a Dungeons and Dragons movie released in 2000. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons_(film) I got stuck watching the last 20 minutes and wanted to claw my eyes out.

Came through to this from your Sidekick review. This is the first I’ve seen of this movie, and honestly, the concept leaves me feeling a little unclean. Of course, Hasbro owns this game, so the movie is coming to you from the same people who made Transformers and GI Joe. I’m expecting to see reused CGI.
Upside is we do see the new Navy utilities- the color of the ocean, and camouflaged, so in a man overboard situation we have to actually run the ships around in circles until someone feels a bump…. The pity here is, we retired the last battleship over a decade ago. They are all museums or broken up for scrap and sold to the chinese to make razor blades and junk pocket knives. 🙁

Although the film “Real Steel” looks like it could be called Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots: The Movie.
Stuart says
I can totally see the resemblance!
